Páginas 83-158. RESUMEN El presente estudio se realizó en el Campo Agrfcola Experimental ''Zacatepec", en Zacatepec, Morelos de diciembre de 1977 a abril de 1978. D 1 1 1 1 Se compararon las áreas foliares por planta obtenidas en forma directa, con las áreas estimadas por tres métodos indirectos en 64 genotipos de sorgo El área foliar observada (AFO) se obtuvo sumando las áreas de cada hoja (la_!: go máximo x ancho máximo x 0.75) presentes en antesis, en cinco plantas de cada una de tres repeticiones. El método ''a'' involucró el cálculo de factores de conversión; los otros métodos consistieron en el cálculo de regresiones entre el área foliar de la hoja bandera (método ''b'') y la de la inmediata inferior (método "c"), con el AFD y el uso posterior de los b y b obte0 1 nidos para estimar el área foliar total por planta en las otras dos repeti-ciones. Se concluyó que: 1) los métodos en que se usaron regresiones dieron el mejor ajuste entre las áreas observadas y las estimadas; 2) el método "b" (que empleó a la hoja bandera como estimador) proporcionó la mejor correla-ción entre las áreas observadas y las estimadas; 3) al analizar las áreas OQ servadas y las estimadas por el método ''b'', se encontró que en ambos casos se discrimina prácticamente al mismo material, 4) el método ''b'' puede dar -una idea aceptable del área foliar cuando se manejan numerosos genotipos. *) M.C., Investigador del Programma de Sorgo en el Campo Agrícola Experimental "El Bajío", CIAB, INIA. **) Ph. RESUMEN 1 1 1 1 1 1 En experimentos de campo, el sombreado artificial de 50 y 76% en comparación con el testigo, 0% de sombreado, no ocasionó cam5ios significativos sobre el total de materia seca de la porción a~rea por -planta (tomando en cuenta el peso de órganos caídos) del frijol (Pas~ olus vulgaris l..) Dicho sombreado se aplicó durante períodos equivu-~ lentes a 90 horas de insolación en tres etapas (inicio, 11ediados y fj_ nal) de la floración y se usó la variedad Michoacán 12-A-3 de hábito indeterminado arbustivo. Correlativamente no ocurrieron cambios significativos en el índice de área foliar y la duración del área foliar Con sombreado de 76%, la tasa de asimilación neta media, mostró valores más bajos a mediados de floración. Por : Emma Melchor Rodríguez No obstante que el Instituto Nacional de Estadística -Geografía e Informática (INEGI), antes Dirección de Estudios del Territorio Nacional (DETENAL), realiza en nuestro país diferentes tipos de estudios Cartográficos; Edafológicos, Uso Actual del Sue lo, Uso Potencial del Suelo, Geológicos, Topográficos, Climato1ó= gicos y otros. Todos ellos de gran calidad y precisión, enfoca-mas nuestra atención a la Cartografía Topográfica, ya que la misma de hecho constituye el estudio base para 'la realización de las demás. Cabe aclarar que estos materiales cartográficos se han ve nido elaborando a escala 1 : 50 000, así como las escalas 1:250 000 para la visión general de la distribución urbana en el contexto de la topografía regional; mapas a línea escala 1:20 000 de lazo na metropolitana del Distrito Federal y sus áreas aledañas y ma-= pas a línea escala 1: 1 O 000 de las ciudades de Puebl'a, Toluca y fotomapas a esta misma escala de las ciudades de Pachuca, Cuernavaca, Tlaxcala y Texcoco . . Considerando que las caracte rísticas topográficas permi ten establecer las diferencias de relieve de la superficie terres tre y que estas diferencias a su vez, responden de una manera par ticular a los factores físicos y bióticos que se presentan en lanaturaleza, las cartas topográficas representan una herramienta básica y útil para los profesionistas y estudiantes de las diversas disciplinas de la ingeniería y ciencias naturales. Con el objeto de ejemplificar lo anterior, se pueden -mencionar los siguientes tipos de estudios e investigación que -tanto a nivel profesional como académico, se pueden apoyar en la cartografía topográfica. 1 .- ESTUDIOS VEGETATIVOS Y ECOLOGIA EN GENERAL. Las cartas topográficas sirven de base para la delimitación, ubicación y cuantificación de las diversas comunidades vegetativas que se presentan en un ecosistema particular o regio nal. En este caso, el reconocimiento de campo permite esta= blecer los límites topográficos dentro de los cuales se presenta una determinada comunidad, pudiendo obtener toda la in formación adicional necesaria para su caracterización; altu= ra sobre el nivel del mar topografía (por ciento dependiente y forma), ubicación geográfica (Latitud Norte y Longitud aes te), ubicación con respecto al resto del ecosistema, etc. Además de la información anterior se podrá tener una visión de conjunto que permita explicar la influencia del resto de los factores que interactuan o tienen relación directa con las características propias del ecosistema; suelos, geolo--gía, hidrología y otros. �Desde este punto de vista los maestros encargados de impartir la materia, podrán utilizar el material generado en un viaje de estudios por ejemplo, para facilitar la comprensión de la región estudiada, explicando las causas y efectos de los di versos factores que interactuan contemplados de una manera integral o de conjunto. Por otro lado los estudiantes po--drán realizar sus prácticas de una manera más realista que incentive su ingenio y creatividad , ya que estarán trabajando con características reales cuya única modalidad es su representación cartográfica. Este aspecto académico puede con siderarse extensivo para el resto de los tipos de estudio - = que se mencionan a continuación. 2.- ESTUDIO DE SUELOS EN GENERAL . Al igual que en el caso anterior , las cartas topográficas -permiten la delimitación , ubicación y cuantificación de las diversas series, tipos y fases de suelos que se presentan en una determinada zona ecológica , pudiendo utilizarse los re-sultados obtenidos , para establecer la clasificación y mapeo de los suelos de acuerdo a su potencial y/o uso actual, lo que permite la planeación de su mejor explotación y manejo . El mapeo podrá realizarse tanto a nivel regional como a ni -vel de pequeñas áreas , pudiendo obtenerse a detalle en caso deseado , el padrón de usuarios del suelo y los diferentes ti pos de explotación a los que se dedica . 3. - LEVANTAMIENTO Y UBICACION DE OBRAS DE INFRAESTRUCTURA. Sobre las cartas topográficas se pueden representar todas aquellas obras de infraestructura que pueden utili zarse para el desarrollo de una zona o región en particular. De hecho las cartas topográficas contienen la mayor part e de las ---obras de infraestructura; presas, canales, caminos , pozos de agua , etc . Sin embargo esta información podrá actualizarse año con año e incluso enriquecerse en detalles si se desea , ya que por ejemplo, podrán delimitarse con colores las cer-cas de los agostaderos, superficies de diversos cultivos tan to de riego como de temporal, límites de ejidos , nuevos po-= zos de agua, presas y cualquier otro tipo de estructuras que revistan importancia para el tipo de estudio que se realiza. Una de las más importantes aplicaciones de estas cartas radi ca en el hecho de que pueden utilizarse para la planeación = de nuevas obras de infraestructura; caminos (trazo y ubica- ción de bancos de material) , presas (ubicación, análisis de cuencas y bancos de materiales), y canal es entre otros . 4 .- PLANEACIOM DE LA EXPLOTACION AGROPECUARI A EN GENERAL . Tanto a nive l regional como a nivel predio las cart as topo-gráficas si r ven de apoyo para realizar los estud i os necesa-rios (como los mencionados anteriormente) para la planeación de la exp l otación de los recursos naturales con los que se - �cuenta, pudiendo establecerse los programas de habilitación, manejo y conservación de los mismos. Desde el punto de vista de habilidad, se pueden utilizar para planificar las aper turas de nuevas superficies al cultivo, tanto de riego comode temperatura, el manejo de las áreas de acuerdo a sus ca-racterísticas; ecológicas (rotación de potreros), sistema de siembra (curvas a nivel u otros), sistema de riego (surcos, melgas u otros, etc. Desde el punto de vista de conservación, se pueden utilizar para planear los programas de conservación de suelo y/o agua mejoramiento de suelos afectados por salinidad, manejo u --otros. Con el propósito de ejemplificar aún más, detallaremos un -ejemplo de estudios donde se utiliza la cartografía topográfíca. EL USO DE CARTAS TOPOGRAFICAS EN EL PROYECTO DE SENSORES REMOTOS. En el proyecto de Sensores Remotos seleccionamos el estudio de los recursos frutícolas del estado de Nuevo León, ini--ciandose con el inventario de cítricos del estado, que comprende el 40% aproximadamente de la producción agrícola del mismo. El estudio en su etapa final de obtención de resultados, ha hecho di ferentes etapas del mismo. Dicho material fue el documento fuen= te para las siguientes tareas: 1.- Obtención del Indice de vuelo. 2.- Uso de las fotografías en blanco y negro a escala de 1 ;50 000 para planear el vuelo. 3.- Uso de las cartas topográficas para obtener el índice de vue lo, límites municipales y catálogo de localidades. 4.- Uso de la carta topográfica para: a) Obtener el índice de vuelo. b) Límites municipales. c) Catálogo de localidades del municipio. d) Determinación de escalas de las fotografías usadas en un vuelo específico. e) Transferencias de los vuelos específicos del programa a un mapa base. f) Trazo de marco de fotointerpretación. g) Mapeo en mapa base de toda la superficie ocupada por cí-tricos. . Considerando que no obstante la ejemplificación presentada en los párrafos anteriores pudiese enriquecerse aún más, para concluir se puede decir que de hecho la información cartográf~ �ca topográfica (INEGI), tiene una amplia utilidad en todas las - disciplina s de la ingeniería , ciencias naturales y ciencias afi-nes a ellas. tanto desde el punto de vista profesional como acadé mico. EL USUARIO DE LA INFORMACION . Las publicaciones geográf:cas debidamente clasificadas son de vital impor,ancia como obras de consulta para investigadores , técnicos, planificadores y usuarios del sector público relacionados con las carreras de ingeniería y ciencias naturales . El usuario cumple dos fur.ciones : ·1a gene::oa y la utiliza en el interminable proceso del desarrollo científico, pero ante el inusitado fenómeno de la llamada "explosión de la información " se hace necesario que el usuario conozca las instituciones, sus servicios la metodología para localizarla y que además esté tam-bién preparado científica y culturalmente para entender , relacionar, rechazar, aceptar y aplicar la bibliografía adecuada . El usuario bien orientado respaldará con información oportuna sus decisiones , ahorrará ::empo y recursos, no duplicará esfuerzos y contrijuirá con aportac:ones de valor al desarrollo de su campo de acción . FORMACION DEL USUARIO. Existen varios tipos de usuarios , pero todos persiguen lo mismo; información, pero sus inquietudes difieren según el - -área del conocimiento en que se desplac en ; su grado cultural , la actividad que desempeñen y la institución a donde concurren . Hemos enfocado este trabajo solamente al estudiante universitario . Su proceso de formación cultural debería de iniciarse desde que se aprende las primeras letras, (lo cual está muy lejos de lograr se en nuestro medio ) e impartirsele instrucción en forma permanen te hasta los estudios universitarios y continuar aún en su empeño profesional . Consideramos, dada nuestra formación cultural, que el nivel universitario es el más apropiado por el momento para -plantear la solución del problema . En nuestro país son pocas las universidades que contemplan dentro de sus programas cursos sobre formación de usuarios debido al poco interés y escaso apoyo institucional para implemen tarlos. Afortunadamente a nivel internacional ha comenzado a des pertarse interés por el problema y son varias las instituciones= y organismos que están recomendando y presionando la instituciona lización de programas de instrucción . �PROGRAMA DE FORMACION FAUANL. En 1976 se integró dentro del plan de estudios de la Fa cultad un curso denominado "Uso y Manejo de la Información", al= planearse la necesidad de que el estudiante estuviera adiestrado en maneJo de fuentes de información y a dominar los métodos y téc nicas para la búsqueda, recopilación, evaluación y control de lainformación. Este programa se impartía en forma de conferencias y clases prácticas incluyendo: Introducción a la información, Organización de la información, Fuentes primarias y secundarias de la información agrícola. Se consideró el curso de carácter obli gatorio. Sin embargo en 1978 debido al poco interés por parte de los alumnos se dejó de impartir el curso. Posteriormente en 1982 a la fecha se da una instrucción general sobre el uso y manejo de la Biblioteca solamente para los alumnos de primer ingreso, esta instrucción comprende en rasgos generales una explicación sobre la Biblioteca, su acervo, sus servicios y su manejo, Estamos concientes de que la experiencia nos permitirá mejorarla y de que sólo a través de un período de ''instrucción pa ciente y perseverante" el usuario podrá, no sólo adiestrarse y ma nejar con grado de eficiencia las fuentes y recursos de informa-= ción; sino también comprenderá la operación de la Biblioteca y -distinguirá con claridad el alcance y la limitación de sus servicios al establecer un diálogo permanente y productivo. FUENTE DE INFORMACION CARTOGRAFICA. Dentro de las fuentes de acceso a la información cartográfica estan los Atlas, y las Cartas Geográficas, INEGI antes -DETENAL documentos que por las características con que fueron diseñados representan un tipo de información especial que requiere de conocimientos y destrezas especiales para su aprovechamiento, ya que aparece generalmente simbolizada a travéz de nombres, lí-neas, colores, figuras, números, etc. En las Bibliotecas, quizá por la escasa formación geo-gráfica de nuestros usuarios, esta clase de fuentes son poco re-queridas y utilizadas no obstante que contienen información inestimable. En lo referente a este material la intervención del bibliotecario es más bien de difusión que de aplicación. Primero porque carecemos de instrucción adecuada y segundo porque conside ramos que son los maestros de las diferentes materias enfocadas= al tema, quienes deben de mostrar su aplicación en casos específl cos. -------- �El material cartográfico recibe cada día mayor difusión y en algo estamos contribuyendo para su utilización futura ya que consideramos que el estudiante universitario y en particular el de Agr onomía es uno de los mejores usuarios potenciales que tiene la cartografía por la naturaleza y presición de la información -que presta a este sector. �B I BL I OGRAF I A ARBOLEDA - SEPULVEDA, O.
