En la planeación de una carretera, el análisis hidrológico es esencial para un correcto diseño de las obras hidráulicas. En el diseño geométrico, es importante considerar alineamientos verticales con pendientes suaves que permitan mantener consumos de combustible óptimos y bajos niveles de emisiones contaminantes. Un apropiado manejo del agua superficial permite mantener los flujos adecuados y elevar su calidad, así como evitar la sedimentación y otras afectaciones. El control de calidad en la construcción de las carreteras es un elemento clave para aumentar la vida útil del camino. El plan de control de calidad debe incluir los elementos o materiales a monitorear, las pruebas que deberán hacerse y las acciones correctivas en caso de desviaciones. El manejo de residuos durante la construcción de un camino podría tener impactos importantes; por ello es necesario elaborar un plan en el que se identifiquen el tipo (sólidos o peligrosos), la cantidad, la forma de manejo y la disposición de los residuos, entre los que se pueden incluir los materiales producto de los cortes que son llevados a los bancos de tiro. En la construcción de carreteras sustentables, el cuidado del agua superficial es un factor primordial, tanto para evitar su contaminación por la construcción como para mantener los flujos adecuados de un lado a otro del camino. El uso de material local para la construcción representa ahorros en costos por traslados y beneficios ambientales relacionados con el consumo energético. Sin embargo, otro esquema importante es el uso de materiales reciclados. Servirse de vegetación para 2 la restauración ambiental del sitio donde se construye la carretera promueve la sustentabilidad; para ello se deben atender consideraciones importantes, como el uso de vegetación nativa que, además, requiera poca irrigación. La revegetación ayuda al control de la erosión de los suelos, al control de las tormentas y a la mejora del paisaje. Para las empresas constructoras, es obligatorio contar con certificaciones relacionadas con la calidad (tales como la norma ISO 9001) y normas de cumplimiento ambiental (como la ISO 14001). Esto le da a su participación una garantía formal en la realización de los procesos constructivos, en su operación y en su compromiso con el ambiente. CONTINÚA EN SEPTIEMBRE. In geometric design, its important to consider vertical alignments with soft grades that permit to maintain optimum consumption of fuel and low pollution emissions. An appropriate management of the surface water permits to maintain adequate flows and elevate its quality, as well as avoid sedimentation and other affections. The life cycle analysis of the constructive processes permits to identify those where the consumption of energy is reduced considerably, for which results practical to introduce such analysis in the design stages, as well as selecting the technics and equipment that consumes less fuel, in turn, helping in reducing emissions. A particular mention requires the increase in the volumes of water that affect the infrastructure and that appear as a consequence of the climate changes, for which special designs are required. Construction. The life cycle analysis also may apply to highway projects in order to define the constructive technic or for selecting among the different options to form part of the earthworks and the pavement of the road, the objective in all cases is to identify that project that, during its construction brings the most environmental benefits. The quality control in the construction of highways is a key element to increase useful life of the road. The quality control plan must include the elements or materials to monitor, the tests that must be done and the corrective actions in case of deviations. 3 �is the use of native vegetation that besides, requires few irrigation. The revegetation helps in the control of soil erosion, in the control of storms and enhances the landscape. For the construction companies, to count with certifications related with the quality (such as the norm ISO 9001) and environmental complying norms (as the ISO 14001) gives their participation a formal guarantee in the realization of the constructive processes, its operation and its commitment with the environment. The management of waste during the construction of the road could have important impacts, this is why it is necessary to elaborate a plan where one can identify the type (solids or dangerous), the quantity, the form of management and the waste disposal, among the ones included are the materials product of cuts that are taken to the dumping banks. In the construction of sustainable highways, the proper care of surface water is a prime factor, to avoid its contamination due to construction as well as in maintaining adequate flows from one side of the road to the other side.
